Being a massive fan of the 80's and horror, I absolutely loved this book. The characters are all superbly written, and the story is amazing. There are also lots of easter eggs for horror fans to find whilst reading. I for one, cannot wait to revisit the town of Crimson again. Excellent work, highly recommended.

It is a thrilling and gripping read. The are humourous parodies as well. Barnes has a flair in building tension through atmosphere.
Una, Claude and Talbot are my favourite and idiosyncratic characters especially Claude

A fantastic adventure set in the 80s that brings all the feels of the era before it’s pages. Written in the vein of great adventures like ‘The Goonies’ and ‘The Monster Squad’ - this is a tale of friendship that will definitely be a contender with those greats. Weaving together the elements that make those adventures great plus add the spice of Universal Monsters, 1980s and the point-of-view of a vhs play through… it’s a wild ride that I didn’t want to end. Much praise for the author as he captured everything into his story while weaving a web of mystery and laughs. I cannot wait to see if there is any more mysteries to found down the road in Crimson!

Welcome to Crimson

Amy

Wow! What an adventure that was! It’s funny, cute and gruesome all at the same time. I don’t want to spoil anything but Una, I cried with laughter, she is just brilliant.
I absolutely can’t wait for number 2! Bring it on!

Another great book from Dan! The mix of mystery, comedy and horror was brilliant. Similar to Maple Falls Massacre this book had me hooked and wanting to read on at night even though my eyes were tired. The characters were all so well developed with their own personalities, and the plot always had me guessing throughout the book and coming up with my own theories some came out true and some others didn’t which is the fun of it. I highly recommend this book if you are stuck in a bit of a slum or want to get back into reading as it has worked wonders for me!

Great story with instantly likeable characters

Mr Dan Barnes has done it again another classic. Such a cool story and how it’s told. I’ve said it before with his other books but again another one that could easily be a film or mini series.
With such instantly likeable characters the Story progresses at a steady pace with tension building till the very end. Loved it.

A fantastic 3rd book in the Vatican series, kept me feeling tense most the way through trying to second guess what was gonna happen and being suprised each time. There’s so much more to come from this series I can feel it.
And a totally unexpected ending. Another 5 star book by Dan Barnes.

Vatican: Unholy Alliance

Pete Stevens

Another stella episode in the world of Thomas Gabriel Aka Vatican. The first two books have really built the saga nicely. This one I wasn't sure would bring the end to it but it has created a HUGE curve ball. Not only do we now have the main event storyline. There now appears to be a Mid Card storyline between Graham and Stone. Dan's use of characters and then all having meaning is second to none. If you get a hold of this book please enjoy it.

Vatican: Unholy Alliance

Mike Brososky

Another absolutely amazing book by the author, who weaves a third tale of his vigilante Vatican. This time the hits are harder, the violence is exceeded and the stakes are raised to brand new heights.
The author does a fantastic job weaving different point of views while weaving an ongoing web of stories to be told. I also love how he incorporates little Easter eggs from his previous works.
This is definitely a read for fans of the author or the Vatican series - I simply was so immersed in the story I couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait to see what happens next for the angel of justice!

Vatican: Unholy Alliance

What another fantastic Vatican novel. A rollercoaster from start to finish! Can’t wait for more!

Book 2 of the Vatican series and wow what a ride that was, full of different emotions and continuously kept me wanting to read on to see how it was going to end.

BURT ROCKS!!

Vatican: Retribution

Absolutely another great title from Dan!

Book 2 of the Vatican series and wow what a ride that was, full of different emotions and continuously kept me wanting to read on to see how it was going to end.

Randy Belaire

As a fan of the neo pulp/ superhero genre, I really enjoyed this awesome prowse adventure. Vatican reminds me a lot of a daredevil/batman feel, but Barnes makes this his own and provides a great narrative. No spoilers, so buy the book to know more, but once you start, you will have faith in both the angel of justice, and in the awesome writings of Mr. Barnes.

Vatican: Angel of Justice

Kirsty Richards

Great characters and storyline. Love how each character is bought to life with vivid descriptions. I especially enjoyed reading about Vatican’s journey to becoming the angel of justice. Looking forward to the next one.

Vatican: Angel of Justice

David Hume

Loved the Vatican book, the depth in the story n characters is brilliant, the time and effort that Dan has put in to this along with his other books is legendary my favourite of his books up to yet, I really cant wait for more.

Baz West

I’ll admit at first I found this book a bit slow to get into, however once I got further in and then found I couldn’t put it down. Builds to a great ending but leave you wanting more and I’m so glad there are more books from this series. Once again another great book from Dan Barnes.

Vatican: Angel of Justice

A.R

Absolutely brilliant! Such great characters in a vividly detailed story, I felt like I was actually there with them. Definitely cannot wait to start the second instalment. Bring it on!!

Vatican: Angel of Justice

Mike Brososky

Every hero has their story where they started it all, and how they became the heroes we love. This is where Dan Barnes takes us with “Angel of Justice.” An origin story of a vigilante, that has not even begin to start his path of greatness. Barnes brings everything to the table on this novel and it shows with every line written. The vivid details to the cast of characters makes you feel like this is more than a hero that could grace the pages of a comic or the scenes of a movie - this could be from a real setting. I personally loved how Barnes shifted the story between a couple of characters, all intertwining to come together for the climax of the story. I definitely can’t wait to re enter the world of Vatican and his future adventures!

Vatican: Angel of Justice

Pete Stevens

This book has depth! If you're like me and enjoy the thought of a good series only to be let down by the lack on content in the following books then fear not. The depth of story telling in this book far outways the need to worry about content. I've read this from cover to cover and it's at last 30 chapters in before Vatican gets his hands dirty and by the time book is over he's only ever really faught 3 small Battles.

The author of this book knows his characters and how to bring the to life with compellingly solid story telling. In a former life the author was a professional wrestler so character development, story building and overall content development is what he's good at. Cannot wait for volume 2.

Vatican: Angel of Justice

Amy

What an adventure, this book is full of action. I absolutely cannot wait to continue Vatican’s journey!

Vatican: Angel of Justice

What a story definitely a must read

Maple Falls Massacre

Rebecca Harris

A fantastic read for any horror fans you won't want to put it down always wanting to know what's going to happen next.

Maple Falls Massacre

Classic Horror!

For any fan of cult classic horror and slashers! Daniel sets up his scenes with instant classic vibes and it's a real treat for the veteran horror fans out there!

Maple Falls Massacre

Beyond shock!

Very scary, should be a movie.

Maple Falls Massacre

A Must read!

Maple Falls Massacre

Won’t be disappointed!

Was hooked from the first page. Like all of Daniel’s other work, I did not want to put this down.
You won’t be disappointed!

Maple Falls Massacre

A masterclass in tension!

Barnes is an upcoming storyteller who doesn’t disappoint! I was gifted this brilliantly crafted, chilling suspense horror and what a gift! Its deliciously dark, unsettling narrative was impossible to put down!

Maple Falls Massacre

Great teen horror book

The book has everything you like from a teen slasher horror movie, the story flows and I found myself really immersed in it. Would definitely watch it if it was made into a tv program or film.

Maple Falls Massacre

Dan is a Master of his Craft!

This book, and author, definitely deserves more attention. The way Dan crafts his work with such elegance is a credit to the modern day art.

If you read only one book in 2021 make this one it. This book is written in such way that keeps you wanting more after each page. I personally struggled to put the book down.

Maple Falls Massacre

Old School Horror from New School Author!

Absolutely brilliant book. Got this at the beginning of lockdown with the intention of keeping me going for a few weeks, unfortunately managed to polish it off in a single sitting. Edge of your seat suspense with believable characters, setting and a truly iconic slasher. Fingers crossed we get a sequel to carry on the story as it definitely needs one.

Maple Falls Massacre

A MUST READ FOR ANY HORROR FAN!

What an amazing book. I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed!

Maple Falls Massacre

Gruesome and relentless. Well worth the read!

Daniel Barnes has written another creepy chiller that gives you what you expect and then tips beyond your expectations. There is no mercy in the Maple Falls Massacre. This story is not for those with a weak stomach. He creates characters you route for and characters you hate. But all of it is necessary to keep you hooked chapter after chapter. You can feel the cold in your bones while reading this one. Dan Barnes is a great author to read during the spooky season! I will recommend this book to others.

Maple Falls Massacre

Great horror story

Full of tension and suspense. A classic horror story for those that love this genre.
Dan’s description of characters, settings and even the violence is so vivid that it really brings this story to life. It kept me invested in the plot and characters themselves the whole way through. Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Would highly recommend!

Maple Falls Massacre

Joanne

Amazing book. As with all the books by Dan they have you gripped from the very beginning. Can’t wait for the next.

Maple Falls Massacre

Cult Horror

Absolutely gripping read. First book by this author I have read and I'm definitely going to be reading more. It starts off with a legend of a Bigfoot type creature, but the truth is much more nastier. Great characters and settings, and an unforgettable killer. Looking forward to reading more of this universe, excellent read, highly recommended. Great work Daniel J Barnes

Maple Falls Massacre

AMAZING!!! What a fantastic gory, spine chilling story!! Couldn’t put it down

Maple Falls Massacre

Killian H. Gore

I don't want to give spoilers, so I'll just say that I absolutely loved this book! Totally my type of horror. If you like the words of Richard Laymon, then I'm sure you'll love this too. It's brutal, it's funny, it's thrilling, it's got a great storyline and Dan Barnes has a great, very readable, style. Definitely my favourite horror book of the year. Highly recommended.

Maple Falls Massacre

Pete Stevens

Gripped. I finished this book this afternoon and I'm torn. I'm glad I've finished it in the day time but I lost the feeling of reading it at night. This isn't a reflection on the story because believe me yesterday night I was GRIPPED! This story has been written to grip and grab it does. At points when Beau Tooth was watching them through the windows I felt someone looking through mine too! Great story with what I think is a hook at the end. Maybe another book. Maybe leaving it there. Who knows....

Maple Falls Massacre

Earendil Star

The narrative started off unassuming....then it got ?????????, ??????, ??? ?????????

There's something ???????? taking place in Maple Falls and what an ?????? name.

Next, the flashback of the terror/legend - ?? ????!!!

The love scene empathetic, tender and sensitive - and... ??...????...???...??? ????? ???? ?? ???? ???

I appreciate the list of the many names of Bigfoot (pgs23-24)

?????? ???? ?? ?????'? ? ?????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ????!

Totally enjoyed it.

Maple Falls Massacre

Dinner Party in a single sitting, I couldn't wait for the physical release so had to get a copy for my Kindle on day of release.

Absolutely loved it start to end (another of his books I read in a single sitting). Although the book was advertised as a horror / thriller, the start of the book confused me a little. Once I got through the prologue and the story properly got going, the title definitely made a lot more sense!

Any fan of classic horror slasher films won't be disappointed. The victims are well written, and the development between them really ramps the tension as the bodies begin to build up. Beau Tooth was such an eerie yet satisfying killer. The book left a lot of stuff unexplained (until the last few pages where everything comes together) and I cannot wait to see if the writer pens another Massacre.

Maple Falls Massacre

Hayden

Out of all of dans work, this one really stands out. Constantly leaving you wanting more. It’s such a breath taking action paced story line. When I picked up the book to begin with, I couldn’t put it down. The pace of the plot really goes hand in hand with the story. This well crafted novel is great no matter if you love or have never read horrors I urge you to read this book. Once again I applaud Dan on his work.

Maple Falls Massacre

Scarlett Stuart

As I started reading this book I had no idea the wild ride that I was in for. You think one thing is going to happen and then it takes a turn that you weren’t expecting. All of the characters were absolutely wonderful in each of their own way.

It’s perfectly paced and doesn’t feel rushed at all. You’ll notice references from other authors as well. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller/ mystery as it’s become one of my favourite books that kept me on the edge of my seat with every page that I turned.

Maple Falls Massacre

Richard Nunn

I rather enjoyed this classic slasher fic. Devoured it in two nights. I particularly enjoyed the decoy protagonist at the beginning and then the time shift made it even more fun.

Maple Falls Massacre

Anthony

Barnes really captures the genre in this piece, creating all the air of uncertainty in his environment and suspense in his characters. This was a fun read through and through and a difficult one to put down. All the tropes we’ve come to know and love about the slasher genre are present and accounted for but take a quick turn into subverted expectation. I would easily enjoy following maple falls dark history, as the tastes we get sprinkled throughout answer questions with more questions. The characters are engaging and together form an enjoyable dynamic to help build the reader’s attachment... but don’t get too attached! Happy Hauntings!

Maple Falls Massacre

Mike Brososky

Starting the book I had no idea what I was truthfully in for, nor prepared for the roller coaster I was about to endure. Once you open the pages your automatically whisked away into a snow covered mystery that grips you tight and doesn’t let go. Once you think you have the mystery of Maple Falls figured out, your in for a surprise.

Aside from being completely enthralled in the mystery and suspense I absolutely loved the characters. Each person doesn’t seem like names on a page, but more like people you know way before the book begins. You become deeply invested in each character as the horror progresses. The author makes every character unique yet relatable , which is hard to find - especially in this genre.

There are so many great cultural references and references to the authors other works - that when they pop up you feel like your discovering movie Easter eggs. I have nothing but praise for this book and with this reading it has easily become of my favourite suspense / thriller works.

Maple Falls Massacre

A.R

This book is fast paced and chock full of action. The lead character Jimmy is amazing and I can’t wait to see where this character goes next. Magpa? Well….what can I say. A truly unique creature that I sure as hell don’t want to meet. Beware of magpies!!

Magpa: Sorrow

Amy

What a brilliant book! Jimmy- the main character is instantly likeable and I can’t wait to read more of his story. A must read!!

Magpa: Sorrow

Amazing!

I've just started this book but I cannot put it down! I'm not a big reader so takes a good book to get me hooked and this book did just that! Can't wait to continue until the very end. Makes you really interact with the characters and drift into a magical and mystic world and I love it!

Hartwaker: The End of Kings

Amy

What an absolute masterpiece. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. It has everything that a fantasy novel needs, amazing characters, weird and wonderful creatures and a villain so bad even satan would quiver. Bye bye game of thrones, Hartwaker's in town!!

Hartwaker: The End of Kings

Baz West

Simply put another awesome book from this author, it’s hard to put this book down when you start reading, what a journey.

This was a great read for me. I had been waiting for this book for a long time. I got a digital copy an read it on my tablet. It was great to see the flow of the story and the heart of the writer in it. Can’t wait to see more from the author.

Fear Trigger

Kirsty Richards

This book had me gripped from the start! Vivid descriptions bring the story and characters to life. The book, provided plenty of scary moments, leaving me with goosebumps. A must read for any horror fans.
But the story also has an important message to convey, which added a different and interesting dimension to the book. Would definitely recommend!

Fear Trigger

Helen Brookes

I started this book this morning and just couldn’t put it down!! Well Mr D Barnes you have done it again another gripping story that everyone can relate to in their own way. The writing was exceptional and I was hanging on every word! I was there right in the moment absolutely amazing read didn’t want it to end. For anyone that had not checked out this author yet please do you will not be disappointed!!!

Fear Trigger

Mike Brososky

Another absolutely amazing book by the very talented author. This book not only traverses you down a dark road that Stephen King would be proud of - it also follows with a shining beam of light that leaves a great message. The book was beautifully detailed and every page was another anxiety ridden step into the mind of the main character.
Written in a time where fear has taken a stronghold on everyone, this book not only distracts you from the ugly of the outside world but gives you something more powerful than fear … hope. Hope that the darkness can go away and better days will come.
High praise again for the author and his work

Fear Trigger

Patrick Scattergood

I love books with a psychological slant. I don't mind if that slant points towards horror, thriller or any other genre as long as it takes a new look at a genre that can sometimes be overloaded with books that follow the same path.

Fear Trigger is written by comic book creator Daniel J. Barnes so, being familiar with his comics, I was expecting something very good. He's known for his fast pacing, interesting and unique characters as well as a prose like writing style.

Here, all of those are present and then some. The fast pace is there but Barnes doesn't fall in to the normal trap of speeding to the end of their story. Instead, despite the fast pace, there's enough time to get to know the characters and their motivations.

I've seen a lot of reviews saying that this book is one that you will speed through and will hook you in. I completely agree with that. I was blown away by how quickly it grabbed my attention and held me gripped throughout the entire story. Twists and turns are thrown at you in quick succession but they work. I was worried that it might dull the effect of the next twist but it really didn't nor did it feel like a game of one upping the twist that came before. Instead they were perfectly placed to surprise the reader the most.

I have to admit that it's hard to write a review for a book like this because I would hate to include any spoilers so I will leave it there but say one more thing. Get your hands on this book, it will be one that you will want to devour as soon as you are holding it.

Great read! Loved it!

Dinner Party

Original storyline

Very original storyline! Loved the way you got a glimpse into the background of each of the guests at the dinner party. And the host of the party is one of the most interesting and terrifying characters I’ve come across. I hope there is a sequel to this book which helps us to find out more about that intriguing host.

Dinner Party

Definitely worth a read

Love how this book is written and such an intriguing story

Dinner Party

Buy it!!

What a brilliant read. Such a quirky book, couldn’t put it down!

Dinner Party

A most read

This is a really well written book. It has you hooked from the first word to the last.

Dinner Party

Favourite read!

Definitely my favourite from Daniel!
Hooked straight away. Definitely made me think about who I’d have at my dinner party!

Dinner Party

It’s such a great concept

I enjoyed the idea of this book and was amazed no-one else had ever thought of it. I kind of thought the story would go in the direction that it would, but wasn't sure.
I enjoyed it. It entertained and enthralled me. (and it made me laugh out loud too).
An easy to read book with a good story line and dark humour.

Dinner Party

Nat

Grabbed by the "If you could hold a dinner party with famous people that are no longer with us, who would you invite?" tagline. Dinner Party by Daniel J. Barnes gave me a cast of characters that made for a wildly entertaining and horrifically wonderful dinner.

Blending together humor and horror is one of my favorite types of books and Dinner Party pulls it off. Instantly having a mild moment of panic at the beginning of the book as Barnes decided to mix up the chapters and then also having my lil brain scrambled in the storytelling chapter, I got more than I expected. Trust his process. I can truly tell you nothing of the story because you need to just go in and let the story come at you in the way it was intended. The story works magnificently because of these crazy twists and moments he put in. It is crafted to perfection.

Dinner Party

Baz West

Really good read, I like how it’s written. Without giving too much away it’s like watching a crime program where it keeps flashing back to events leading up to the main story. Kept me gripped and immersed and entertained.
Another great book from a great author

Dinner Party

Christopher Hubble

This fantastic third novel by Daniel J. Barnes takes you on a journey to discover what would happen if you could answer the question who would you invite to a Dinner Party the chapters are not conventionally laid out as in a regular book but this adds to the story for the reader it has you gripped from the start.

I would definitely recommend this book.

Dinner Party

Kirsty Richards

What a great read! This book had me gripped from the start and kept me involved right til the end! With it's mix of humour as well as slight mystery it never disappointed.

The author has managed to create a story which makes you want to keep reading and finding out what will happen next. It's well written and a great size for those just wanting a short read for holidays, short breaks etc.

If your looking for a light hearted read which will keep you intrigued whilst also raise a smile or two I would 100% recommend Dinner Party!

Dinner Party

Pete Stevens

I've read both of Dan's previous books and enjoyed them. I was a bit sceptical over this one to begin with as I'd never really thought too much about the question let alone a full book about it. The jumbled up chapters also interest me because I'm going to have to read the book again in order to see the story in flow order. I've never ever had that before.

The short and curlys are I loved it. Same as always with Dan character depth is outstanding. You have a real strong knowledge of who's who based on Dan's deep descriptive writing style. I loved the inclusion of the story written in German to keep the flow as in keeping as possible.

Dan's stories all being loosely connected to other books is also a strong indicator of a bigger thing than just the one book which I think personally not even Dan has figured out what it might be yet but I put nothing past him.

Dinner Party

Hayden

I started the book when it came out, and I have only just got around to finishing it due to personal commitments. But what can I say about it? Upon finishing the book I was speechless it has taken me some time to come and think about what to write.

If you are a person who likes crime thrillers and murder mystery’s then this book is one hundred percent for you. It includes everything you expect from a murder mystery with extras added in.

At first when I picked the book up I was quite sceptical about how it was laid out. I thought that I would find it hard to read, but I kept going and I’m glad I did. The chapters are expertly crafted in a way that entices you to read on. Dans choice of words really flows and could easily pass for a professional writer.

At times the imagery that Dan pushes is of the explicit nature, but really adds depth to the story. For my age I have read a lot of books and I am pleased to say that Dinner Party is my new favourite book. I loved every moment about it.

I would recommend this to anyone that loves a bit of mystery. Well done Dan.

Dinner Party

Of all his books I felt this may not to be my cup of tea, but had a few hours to spare so dug in ready for a slog. How wrong I was!

If you've found Daniel's books via his comic inspired Vatican series or almost biopic Blood Stained Canvas, I'd urge you open your horizons and read my favourite of his 5 current books (number 6 due very soon)

I was absolutely gripped from start to end and read in a single sitting. What seems to be simple dinner party and the guests journey through the night turns into a much different affair by the end. The shifting chapters introducing us to the characters was a great way to break up a fairly obvious dinner party. The writing was superb and much better than previous books, obviously his confidence and experience is really paying off now. Loved the fact the book feels like the starter (or even main course) of a bigger story and the last page had me gagging for more. Hopefully Daniel gets round to writing another course for us all to enjoy and find out more secrets of The Hosts Dinner Party.

Dinner Party

Helen Brookes

I have only rated this book as a four because of my own preference of what I enjoy reading. Unfortunately this book didn’t draw me in as much as Dan’s other books. However it was brilliantly written and went into great detail especially with the characters. I would recommend this book to others to read as we are all individuals with our own preferences if we were all the same the world of books would not host and open up our minds and hearts to other worlds behind our imagination

Dinner Party

Amy

Another great book from Daniel J Barnes. Some full on belly laugh moments and moments of complete shock. I really liked how the book was laid out by not starting with chapter 1.

Loved this book! I enjoyed delving into the behind the scenes world of wrestling, with loads of inside secrets about how they actually do what they do.
But at the same time you don’t need to be a big fan of wrestling to enjoy the book and storyline. Because as always with Dan’s writing, the characters and plot are as interesting and entertaining as ever. A real page turner, it will keep you gripped to the end!

Blood Stained Canvas

Matthew Brown

Fantastic read from start to finish. It’s a great story for wrestling fans or not to escape the real world and see the drama that unfolds outside of the ring as well as within the squared circle.

Blood Stained Canvas

Great for fans and non fans of wrestling alike

Great book, if you’re a wrestling fan or not, tells a great story and I couldn’t stop reading.
The story flows and there aren’t any/many dips.
Some nice little nods to the legends of wrestling in and out the ring.

Blood Stained Canvas

Wrestling fans will love it

What a book a must read for wrestling fans

Blood Stained Canvas

Brilliant!

Another brilliant read from this excellent author!
Check out all his other work!

Blood Stained Canvas

One of the best books I’ve ever read!

What an amazing book I’m through my 2nd time reading it and it won’t be the last time I read it as it’s fun each time. Truly amazing will recommend for anyone to read!

Blood Stained Canvas

Damian Hill

From start to finish I was engaged with all the characters and felt like I was taking a peak behind the curtain and taking a backstage look into the cartoon world of wrestling. I was really impressed with the overall pace of the story and the fact the writer has managed to create stories for each character without it going against the flow of the narrative, the wrestlers stories were believable and I’m sure the writer must have some knowledge on the subject he has written as it feels like he’s managed to get into the head of the rough lives the wrestlers have whilst also not forgetting the highs they get in front of a crowd. I hope there is a sequel to this, I would definitely like to see what the future holds for some of my favourite characters.

Blood Stained Canvas

This book is for anyone whether you are a fan of wrestling or not the book takes you on a journey and gets you involved. If you aren't a wrestling fan it might convert you and you might find yourself wanting to check out your local wrestling promotion. I can't recommend this book more highly.

Wow! What an incredible story. I haven’t been much of a wrestling fan since I was younger, but you don’t have to be for this extremely well wrote novel. Action packed until the very end, with so many emotional moments, I just could not put it down. Another amazing novel Dan. Thank you!

Great read from start to finish. As a wrestling fan I picked up on the hidden nods to the stars growing up. I’m not a fast reader but I got through this book fairly quick because it just flowed, there were no boring bits or filler. The last 100 pages got me gripped and I read those last few chapters feeling as if I was there.

I'd be remiss if I didn't admit to being friends with the Author but I also will admit to telling people that before I knew DJB the Author I knew Danny Devine, The Metrosexual. The wrestler. Over the years Dan had a few runs at our great sport for which I was a referee and things didn't always go according to the brief. Everytime he got back on the horse he achieved more. It was like he'd never left. I was fortunate enough to work a lot of Dan's last run in the ring as indeed it was my last run too. My point to this open of a review about a book is that as much as this is a work of fictitious creative writing. To those who know Dan it's also at times like his life story. Especially the end of Randy Rogans run (minus the murder). The story is well planned out again like all of Dan's work and totally different to the other titles DJB has penned although set loosely within the Confines of Studd City. The 'universe' if you will for which the author creates his visions. This book is a fantastic read generally but if you're a wrestling fan looking for a fiction novel based on wrestling that doesn't REALLY exist as a genre then I would jump all over this if I was you.

Blood Stained Canvas is part gritty drama and part warts-and-all memoir from someone who has been in that world. Be warned, this is not a rose-tinted and romantic account from a wrestling fan. This is an emotional tale of scandal, passion and intrigue that will have you turning the pages. The cast of characters are fun and diverse but more importantly, you actually care about what happens to them - I'm not afraid to admit that I welled up at more than once.

If you're a wrestling fan, read it. If you're not a wrestling fan, read it. If you can read, read it.

As a wrestling fan, from my childhood to now, when Dan Barnes announced they were going to come out with this book, I was excited. I knew him from watching him perform as the wrestler Danny Devine, so I had high hopes. I also knew that he had a love for the 80's as well as a love for wrestling.

What we ended up with here was a superbly written and paced look at a fictional wrestlers career from the beginning through to the end. There were highs, lows, laughter, tears, it had it all. The thing that I loved the most was the characters. Even the background characters were fully formed and and had distinct personalities. My only complaint, character wise, was that I wanted to know a little more of Glen's story but, that's a personal taste, as I felt sorry and protective of the character so I would love to see more of him.

There are some superb twists and turns, including an absolute shocking ending, that kept me on the edge of my seat. The descriptions of the matches, even the backstage stuff, was spot on. I absolutely loved Dan's view of it all as it came across as authentic without feeling overbearing.

This is the second of his books I've read, Fear Trigger was the other, and this one was even better than the superb FT. It won't be long until I read Blood Stained Canvas again, it really is that good.

Also, keep an eye out for some of the Easter eggs, involving some wrestling legends that Barnes sneaked in to the book too, as some of them were near perfectly fitted in. Some will make you laugh and others will give you a wonderful wave of nostalgia.

Well worth picking up, especially if you are a wrestling fan.

A monster fans treasure!!!!

Barnes's novel 'The Monster Home' is written with such a love of the genre that one cannot help but be swept away with his enthusiasm. What would happen if infamous monster hunter, Abraham Van Helsing, was locked in an asylum with all monstrous entities he used to hunt? For example Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde etc?
The answer lies in the macabre pages of this book which harks back to the classic Universal monsters of the past. Exciting reading ideal for dark, late nights! I highly recommend!

Murder, Mystery and Monsters!

If you are looking for a top-class story with a unique combination of monsters, murder and mystery, then this is the book for you. Mr Barnes brings these classic monsters together in spectacular fashion with great dialogue and a twisting murder mystery storyline. I highly recommend this for an enrapturing and thrilling read.

Struggled since the Twilight series to find a book I couldn't put down and then came along The Monster Home. My favourite night time read, then only complaint I'd have is the lack of sleep since not being able to stop myself from reading! Haha, you can not go wrong with purchasing this book if you want something exciting and captive to your imagination. Nostalgic with the characters you've learnt about whilst growing up and never once does it lack in descriptive brilliance.

Congratulations on such a good write.
Would recommend to anyone.

I just finished this book today. I started it 6 days ago. Daniel Barnes has stayed true to the characters in this book and taken us for a front seat ride for an all new story. I love that he has taken a variety of classic monsters, put them in an asylum together and thrown Abraham Van Helsing right into the centre of it. It gave us a change to see Van Helsing through the eyes of the monsters, and grow to have a soft spot for some of them. I love the big reveal near the end of the book and then the "Easter eggs" planted right at the end, which filled in the blanks. The book starts with a silence of the lambs feel ( psychological thriller) and then goes horror. But I wasn't expecting anything less knowing the other titles and genres Daniel Barnes has published. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to continuing the journey in his next book.

If you’re a fan of old school movie monsters, more specifically the Universal monsters - this book is for you. Although this book features many of the old school monsters, it puts in a twist which also doubles as the plot line for story - what happens when a famous monster hunter is locked in with the very monsters he’s been hunting?
The first book from an author is truly a milestone, of not only creativity but talent. Your taken on a very dark path of questions, twist and turns all the meanwhile trying to survive a night of horror with these legendary monsters. Mr. Barnes inserts the right amount of homage to these iconic characters while also making them his own to the point you feel like you’re discovering them for the first time. I personally grew up on old school horror films and when someone incorporates them today I become very hesitant of how they will be handled. The author is very careful with this and caters to every detail we have come to love.
The story is unique and very original, by the end you will be wanting a sequel or even a prequel set in this world. With very detailed imagery, amazing characters and a very solid story - this author has no where to go but up in his future writings. I recommend this for any horror fan, any person that wants rich detail, that wants a pulsing story - hell I recommend it to all. Can’t wait to see what Mr. Barnes has next in store and hopefully one day this great book can become an adaptation on film!

Remember that movie company Dark Castle? It was early 00’s and they made movies like House on Haunted Hill and Thirteen Ghosts. Monster Home could be a novelization of an unmade film by Dark Castle. It sets up a huge threat in an enclosed environment and then we watch as focal characters deal with multiple different classic monsters. I had a blast with this book and wish it could have been a Dark Castle movie; their penchant for horror set in huge buildings with tons of moving pieces would have been absolutely perfect for Monster Home. Monster Home does a fantastic job of establishing the characters you will follow, and even the monsters; I challenge any fan of horror from the Universal era to the modern era to not have a ton of fun reading this one.

Being a massive fan of Monster Home, I was eagerly awaiting this sequel. I was not disappointed, it has an amazing story, I won't go into to much detail to avoid spoilers, but it's just as action packed and exciting as Monster Home. As with all of Dan's work it's part of a larger universe and If you've also read Maple Falls Massacre and welcome to Crimson expect some Easter eggs and links to them. The DJB universe is shaping up very nicely and expanding brilliantly. Very Pratchett like.
Excellent read. Highly recommended and great work Dan. Looking forward to what you do in this universe next.

Excellent book,
It’s hard to review dans books without using the same words and phrases, however I really enjoyed this book, I like how it continued from monster home but without constantly referencing it and became it’s own story. It was a great journey and never a dull moment. Only negative is I finished the book and felt like I could of read more haha.
Nice work look forward to the next shh instalment.

I really enjoyed Maple Falls Massacre it's so addictive I found it difficult to put down it's well written I really like your style how you capture the characters and bring the reader into the novel In certain aspects it does make you feel cold I enjoyed the journey it's amazing how you can just sort of switch off and go to the place you imagine in the book.

I have just finished this book and I must say it’s one of the best books I’ve read for a while.
The story flows and personally I forgot I was reading and at times I was there with the characters.
This would make a great movie or a series.
My only complaint is the book ended.

Maple Falls Massacre

Kirsty Richards

Thoroughly enjoyable plot! With twists and turns to keep you guessing- right until the very end. Really enjoyed getting to know each of these famous monsters. Realising there is more more to them than meets the eye.
